Musings of a Burbank CPA: App Helps Teach Accounting Basics

There is a new app being developed for the iPhone and iPad that will teach accounting basics to non-accountants.  See the article from Accounting Today by Michael Cohn for more details: http://www.accountingtoday.com/blogs/debits-credits/app-helps-teach-accounting-basics-73232-1.html The app teaches double entry bookkeeping basics and has been out for a couple of years, but while popular in Europe it hasn’t really gained much use in the United States.  The developer, Peter Ruehl from Germany, is now looking for ways to impact the U.S. market.  It seems like an inexpensive way for small businesses to improve their knowledge of basic accounting.      For financial,  accounting and tax musings, You can count on us to count for you! Musings of a Burbank CPA: AICPA CEO Melancon Sees Changes Ahead for CPAs

While I don’t always see eye to eye with the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA)(I have always felt they stood up for the big CPA firms at the expense of the small ones), I like this article in Accounting Today by Sean Mccabe that talks about future evolving of the profession: http://www.accountingtoday.com/news/accounting-news/aicpa-ceo-melancon-sees-changes-ahead-for-cpas-72372-1.html As we go forward, I feel technology and changes in billing practices (which are already happening !) will take us from the hourly rate more toward value billing (see my video “Why I hate taxy drivers! on my website  www.briantstonercpa.com ) which will eventually change the competition to more client friendly cooperation as we find we can’t be generalists and will have to refer some work to other CPA specialists.   For financial,  accounting and tax musings, You can count on us to count for you!
