While I don’t always see eye to eye with the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA)(I have always felt they stood up for the big CPA firms at the expense of the small ones), I like this article in Accounting Today by Sean Mccabe that talks about future evolving of the profession:
As we go forward, I feel technology and changes in billing practices (which are already happening !) will take us from the hourly rate more toward value billing (see my video “Why I hate taxy drivers! on my website www.briantstonercpa.com ) which will eventually change the competition to more client friendly cooperation as we find we can’t be generalists and will have to refer some work to other CPA specialists.
