Marketing Musings of a Burbank CPA: Preparers Tackle Pre-Season Marketing

There are still a few days to continue to market your tax and accounting services before Tax Season hits in full force (although as a tax preparer you should have been marketing from September through New Years for the best results.)  See this posting in AccountingToday by Jeff StimpsonT for various tips from preparers themselves: http://www.accountingtoday.com/taxprotoday/news/preparers-tackle-pre-season-marketing69311-1.html?ET=webcpa:e9868:2498807a:&st=email For my practice and the area of the country (Los Angeles County) I live and work in, print advertising is not very effective.  For me the best  marketing methods are to use social media (mainly LinkedIn and Twitter) and my blog to generate interest in my brand, resulting in increased Google rankings plus referrals from other professionals I have relationships with as well as satisfied clients!        For financial,  accounting and tax musings, You can count on us to count for you! Burbank CPA Musings: The Art of Accounting – Now You Are Starting to Work!

This article by Edward Mendlowitz in AccountingToday reminds us in a funny way that you not only have to work hard, you have to look like you are working hard so everyone will know! http://www.accountingtoday.com/news/Art-of-Accounting-Now-Starting-Work-69296-1.html You just have to remember that perception is important!  It is the old saying “Looking busy is more important that being busy!”   So make sure everyone knows that as a CPA or tax preparer you are always busy, because a CPA who doesn’ t look busy, especially during tax season, must not be very good because no one uses him.  Promote yourself!  If anyone asks if you need more work, say “I am always busy, but I am always looking for new business!”       For financial,  accounting and tax musings, You can count on us to count for you! Musings of a Burbank CPA: Cold Calling for Clients – Laughing From the Grave

This practice management musing talks of the merits and disadvantages of cold calling (in its many forms; not just picking up the phone.)  This article in AccountingToday by Nicholas Keseric highlights various methods of acquiring clients and while he is discussing CPAs, it could also apply to other professions: http://www.accountingtoday.com/news/Laughter-Grave-Cold-Calling-Clients-69020-1.html While ‘cold calling’ in some forms can be effective (seeking out professional referrals through networking and asking your own clients for referrals), most of the time I have found the time and effort spent on other forms of mail and email without a directly interested audience isn’t justified.  Today my most effective marketing employs a Search Engine Optimized website and using various social media outlets (mostly Linkedin and Twitter) to make yourself an ‘expert’ in your area of practice.  If people hear about you and you are easily found through Google, your marketing efforts tend to result in more, higher quality clients.   For financial,  accounting and tax musings, You can count on us to count for you!
