IRS Sets Per Diem Rates for Lodging, Meals and Incidental Expenses

The Internal Revenue Service has set the per diem rates that taxpayers can use to substantiate the amount of expenses for lodging, meals and incidental expenses when traveling away from home.  See this post in AccountingToday by Michael Cohn for more details: http://www.accountingtoday.com/news/IRS-Sets-Per-Diem-Rates-Lodging-Meals-Expenses-68178-1.html You can take actual expenses if they will give you a bigger deduction than these per diem rates, but it gives you a starting point in case you are missing receipts to at least give you some travel deduction.     For financial,  accounting and tax musings, You can count on us to count for you! email: bstonercpa@sbcglobal.net  phone: 818-317-6035 Website: www.briantstonercpa.com   https://twitter.com/bstonercpa

Tax Avoidance Just Isn’t What It Used To Be

So now tax evasion and tax avoidance is starting to be considered the same in some places?  See this article in Forbes by Christopher Bergin to hear more about this: http://www.forbes.com/sites/taxanalysts/2013/09/17/tax-avoidance-just-isnt-what-it-used-to-be/ I totally disagree with the notion that someone who legally avoids taxes is doing something wrong.  It is not only stupid, it is unamerican!  Wasn’t part of the Revolutionary War the revolt against unfair taxation?   For financial,  accounting and tax musings, You can count on us to count for you! email: bstonercpa@sbcglobal.net  phone: 818-317-6035  Website: www.briantstonercpa.com   https://twitter.com/bstonercpa

Federal Government Sees Tax Revenues Rise This Year

Gee, who would have thought?  With the expiration of the two percent social security payroll tax holiday, the federal government is showing an increase in tax revenue this year to date.  There were other tax items that increased revenue also.  See this article in AccountingToday by Michael Cohn that gives all the details: http://www.accountingtoday.com/news/Federal-Government-Tax-Revenues-Rise-68014-1.html I just think it is interesting that the government treats the social security tax collections as part of revenue when it supposedly goes into the Social Security Trust Fund and is not part of normal government revenue (Oh I forgot, the government raids social security whenever it needs money, like an extra savings account) – silly me!
