6 Ways to Overcome Anxiety and Talk Money With Your Children

A good article about ways to combat the fears of talking money with kids (who think they know everything!) in The New York Times by Ron Lieber: http://parenting.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/09/19/6-ways-to-overcome-anxiety-and-talk-money-with-your-children/?_r=0 Hopefully this will get them on their way to learning about financial items.  See my blog on required personal finance classes in school below: http://blog.briantstonercpa.com/2013/05/27/cpa-financial-musings-a-big-push-for-mandatory-personal-finance-classes-in-school.aspx   For financial, accounting and tax musings, You can count on us to count for you! email: bstonercpa@sbcglobal.net  phone: 818-317-6035   Website: www.briantstonercpa.com   https://twitter.com/bstonercpa

Federal Government Sees Tax Revenues Rise This Year

Gee, who would have thought?  With the expiration of the two percent social security payroll tax holiday, the federal government is showing an increase in tax revenue this year to date.  There were other tax items that increased revenue also.  See this article in AccountingToday by Michael Cohn that gives all the details: http://www.accountingtoday.com/news/Federal-Government-Tax-Revenues-Rise-68014-1.html I just think it is interesting that the government treats the social security tax collections as part of revenue when it supposedly goes into the Social Security Trust Fund and is not part of normal government revenue (Oh I forgot, the government raids social security whenever it needs money, like an extra savings account) – silly me! What Would You Ask a Former IRS Auditor?

Do all IRS agents think that all taxpayers selected for audit are cheating on their taxes?  See this article in CPA Practice Advisor by its editor, Isaac M. O’Bannon: http://www.cpapracticeadvisor.com/blog/11150120/what-would-you-ask-a-former-irs-auditor I for one think that most IRS auditors are people trying to do their job to the best of their ability.  I have never met an auditor who I felt was trying to force additional tax revenue out of a client (I will not always say the same for some of those auditors’ managers or supervisors, but that is another story).  That being said, it is still wise to have professional representation at an audit so someone who is familiar with procedures is on your side.     For financial, accounting and tax musings, You can count on us to count for you! email: bstonercpa@sbcglobal.net   phone: 818-317-6035   Website: www.briantstonercpa.com    https://twitter.com/bstonercpa
